Upper Key Stage 2 - Year 5 / 6
Our unit of work for this term will concentrate on the Coastlines of Britain and around the world and will form an integral part of our whole curriculum, incorporating a visit to Joss Bay on 17th June to consolidate learning. The children will be involved in exploring the use of coastlines and investigating the physical processes concerned with the formation of coastal features. This will combine with our science work on habitats and green plants.
Our literacy work this term will include revision of aspects taught in the previous terms as well as studies on fiction texts, poetry and descriptive writing and non-fiction genres including journalistic texts e.g. newspaper reports which link in with our topic work. We also aim to encourage children to experiment with new authors and types of story to help with their reading ability and vocabulary.
In numeracy we will continue to look at the areas of counting, partitioning and calculating, securing number facts, understanding shape, handling data and measures, calculating, measuring and understanding shape and securing number facts. As always we will be working hard on our times tables and we ask that you continue to work on these at home with your child as these form an integral part of accessing the maths curriculum.
