Who are your Governors?

We have four different types of Governors at Dover Road Community Primary School who work together to make joint decisions at governing body meetings.

Parent Governors:  Parent governors (including carers) are elected by other parents at the school, although, if insufficient parents stand for election, the governing body can appoint parent governors.

Sean Clegg (Vice-Chair of Governors)
Neran Davdra
Bal Garcha
Peter Hosford (Chair of Governors)
Ciara Hills

Staff Governors:  Staff governors are elected by the school staff and must be paid to work at the school. In a school with three staff governors, one should be the Headteacher, one should be a teacher and one should be a member of the support staff.

Pat Jarrett (Deputy Headteacher)
Jo Langthorne (Foundation Stage Phase Leader)
Rebecca Smith (Headteacher)
Esther Welsh (Teacher)

Local Education Authority Governors:  Local Education Authority governors are appointed by the Local Education Authority.

We currently have no LEA appointed Governors.

Community Governors:  Community governors are appointed by the governing body to represent community interests and are committed to the good governance and success of the school.

Louise Page
Finnian Rook

Clerk to the Governing Body: The clerk works with the chair of governors, the other governors and the headteacher to support the governing body. The clerk also advises the governing body on constitutional and procedural matters, duties and powers.

The Duties of the Governing Body

The governing body has a range of legal duties under the Education Acts, but ultimately, the governing body has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement (Section 21, Education Act 2002).
